Tragedy

There is this force like a gravity of the soulThere is this force that makes tragedy inevitable.

Not the popularized tragedy of the newspaper:

Not the inevitability of train wrecks and phone sex and letter bombs

that is another matter entirely.

There is this force that makes tragedy inevitable.

There is this force that brings the great low.

There is not a single one of us lacking a flaw.

There is not a single flaw which is not tick tick ticking away

right now at this moment.

Not the popularized tragedy of the newspaper

explosions: because in the real tragedy

the doctors will find themselves unable to heal even the injured.

This tragedy-bomb is lodged in some broken-deep place:

cancer-tumor-nitroglycerine.

The inevitability of train wrecks and phone sex and letter bombs

are a side effect and an outgrowth.

There are tragedies and there are tragedies

There is brokeness in me and so I will try and remake

the world in my broken image.
