As much as being one flesh with our spouse is a lab, a new setting to practice being Christ-like, it’s also a metaphor… Or more specifically, it sits right at the cross roads of a bunch of metaphors:
The church is the bride of Christ.
Christ lives within our flesh.
The members of the holy trinity are three individuals, and yet at the same time, they are one.
That’s one of the common denominators here: in several cases, we’re told that individuals keep their individuality. And yet at the same time they are joined with something greater than themselves.
