This Blog isn’t nearly unfocused enough. Subjecting readers to my random musings, poetry, and political views has been o.k. for these last couple years that I’ve been blogging. But I think I’d like to throw in a little more unfocusedness…
I’ve been working on my writing. I’ve been reading, “The Writer’s Idea Book.” It’s full of writing prompts to get a writer started. When I think my exercises are worth reading or might lead to an interesting discussion, I’ll post them here.
Today, I settled on “Write a list of your favorite things”
What are your favorite things?
My Favorite Things
Coffee- iced to the point that it’s nearly frozen, woody, dark and deep, with a hint of sweetness, and perhaps chocolate.
Coffee- so hot that it scalds the tongue. Woody, dark, and deep, mitigated by just a hint of sweetness. Feeling it warm first my mouth then my throat and working its way outward, fighting the cold outside.
The feeling when things just snap into place: Sometimes it is a sense of God’s presence. Other times it might be a series of ideas, that I hadn’t seen the connections between. Other times, it is simply feeling that I belong; that I am loved and appreciated.
Watching my kids become better, stronger, more mature people- though I don’t enjoy watching them go through the pain that these sometimes require.
When my wife knows some tiny, seemingly insignificant detail about me that I didn’t expect… often these are things I don’t even know about myself.
Discovering something new to use as a topping for pizza, or nachos, or something new to coat in chocolate.
Being able to provide for my family and pass them on things that weren’t easy.
Being able to help lead somebody to new knowledge in an area they always struggled in.
Watching someone grow past a major stumbling block, challenge, or addiction.
Feeling God’s love in my life in a real way.
